Jose Cabral Dias, 79, of Fall River, husband of Maria Adelaide (Melim) Dias passed away May 20, 2023 at Brandon Woods in New Bedford, with his family by his side.
Jose was born in Porto Santo, Madeira, Portugal. He was the son of the late Jose and Georgina (Oliveira) Dias. He served in the Portuguese Army and worked as a mason for many years in construction. Jose was a huge Benfica fan. Every Fourth of July, Jose would go to Fort Adams, Newport with his family and pick periwinkles, which he would cook for the family. His greatest joy was family gatherings, where Jose would cook outdoors for his family, who enjoyed his burnt chicken thighs and drumsticks. He also enjoyed traveling back to his homeland, Porto Santo, Madeira.
Besides his wife of 56 years, he leaves seven children, Noelia Mendonca (husband Joseph), Jose Dias, Carlos Dias (wife Kerie), Ana Paula Sousa (husband Emanuel), Cristina Dias (husband Faustino Carmo), Sandra Sousa (husband Nuno), and Niza Desa (husband Carlos); grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews; siblings, Maria S. Camara, Joao R. Dias, Rogerio O. Dias, Arlete J. Cotta, Rosa M. Resendes, Jose J. Dias and he was also the brother of the late Manuel V. Dias;
Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Wednesday, May 24th from 4:00 AM to 8:00 P.M. at the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main St. Fall River. Barrier-free entrance from the parking lot.
His funeral will be held Thursday 9:00 A.M. from the funeral home with a Funeral Mass at Santo Christo Church,Columbia St.at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery.
