    Gloucester, MA – Captain “Rich” Mackey of Gloucester, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 23, due to complications of pneumonia during his lengthy battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was born in Gloucester on May 2, 1958, to Evelyn J. (Murphy) Thompson and Richard S. Mackey. He grew up in Gloucester where most of his childhood was spent hanging with friends in Riverdale and Lanesville. He was born on May 5, 1954, son of the late John J. “Jack” and Alice M. (Brown) Thompson. Jay attended Gloucester Public Schools.
