Born and raised in Randolph, he was the son of the late Frank and Lena Wales and a graduate of Stetson High School. Lawrence was a proud veteran of World War II, having served in the US Army 5th Infantry Division “Red Diamond” from 1943-1946 and had earned a Bronze Medal for his service. She graduated from Abington High School in 1950 and went on to the Bridgewater State Teachers College where she pledged Kappa Delta Pi.
