Essex, MA – Joseph M. "Joe" Dasilva, the husband of Filomena Dasilva, passed away peacefully after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer on Saturday, October 17th.
Joe was born in Madalena, Pico in the Azores to the late Jose Francisco Dasilva and mother Maria Julia Dasilva. He was a hard-working man who was dedicated to his family. Joe was a very skillful master machinist and was able to build and repair almost anything. He spent his spare time gardening, beekeeping, and growing several varieties of his famed hot peppers. Later in life, he and Filomena built a home to enjoy with family in the Azores, where the family has their roots. In Joe's memory, his wife and daughters will finish the beloved home in the Azores that Joe had been working on up until his last moments.
Joe is survived by his mother Maria Julia Dasilva, wife, Filomena Dasilva, and two daughters, Jessica Dasilva, and Nicole Roy and her husband, Joseph Roy, and two granddaughters.
A celebration of Joe's life will be held privately with close family members. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in memory of Joe Dasilva to support cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O.
