Dan was born in Englewood, NJ on January 14, 1949. Dan was a graduate of Saddle Brook High School, NJ in 1967. After that he was drafted into the Army and served in Vietnam as a medic. Dan’s career centered as an electrical designer and draftsman and he retired from the Port Authority of NY/NJ in 2011 and relocated to his beloved vacation home in Gloucester. Dan was a survivor of the February 26, 1993 basement bombing of the World Trade Center and the 9/11 attack on the Twin Towers in lower Manhattan. Dan was on the 74th floor of the North Tower that day.
Upon moving to Gloucester, Dan centered his energy on Meals on Wheels as a driver/delivery man and he loved seeing his clients. Dan also was very involved in the Gloucester Elks 892, serving as an officer and was on the Veterans committee. Dan enjoyed his involvement with the Cape Ann Veterans, VFW, and American Legion.
Dan is survived by his three wonderful sons, Ryan F. Leahy of Denver, CO, Adrian B. Leahy of Washington Heights, NY, and Travis J. Leahy of San Diego, Calif. He is also survived by his sisters, Carolyn Guinta, Theresa Conklin, Eileen Mohan, and Patricia Mascenik. He leaves behind many loving in laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Dan was predeceased by his parents, William and Gertrude Leahy, his brother, Robert Leahy and his nephew, Christopher Pecoraro.
Dan’s visiting hours will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester on Saturday, August 29, 2020 from 10:30-12:30 p.m. Face coverings and social distancing is required. Burial in Beechbrook Cemetery will be on Saturday at 2 p.m. His funeral mass is being held privately.
