Gloucester, MA – Shirley Ann Francis, born April of 1940, passed away Monday July 27th at the age of 80, peacefully in her sleep. A well-known, Gloucester-born resident, Shirley had the hearts of many. She will live on in the memory of her friends and family which include, her eldest child Shirley Turner wife of Michael Nugent, J. Kris Francis husband of April, Corey Francis and R Mark Stottlemyer all born and raised in Gloucester, grandchildren Bobby Turner, Bill Turner, Mike Turner, Ryan Francis, Caitlyn Francis, Amanda Silva, Dan Turner, John Francis, Cecily Francis, Summer Francis, Bob Stottlemyer, 28 great-grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren. Shirley touched many souls on this earth. A graduate of Gloucester schools, she graduated with honors from both North Shore Community College and Salem State where she earned a Bachelor’s degree and made the dean’s list. Shirley was an amazingly talented artist working with multiple mediums. Shirley was skilled in photography. A longtime member of the Utica Council of Pocahontas, she held many chairs throughout her tenure. Later in life, Shirley was a homebody who would do arts and crafts, play games, and hand out candy with/to local children from Riverdale Park or anywhere in Gloucester over the years. Shirley took countless children with her so they could experience adventures like camping and hiking, rubber rafting, planting flowers and vegetables in the garden. Shirley could do it all; nothing stopped her from doing what she wanted. Shirley traveled, seeing many places in the world. Shirley’s grandson, Ryan Francis was the last child she had the privilege of raising. Shirley had traveled places like Arizona and Texas and too many more places to list. She truly lived a great and happy life.
There will be a graveside service at Locust Grove Cemetery in Rockport Aug. 25, 1 p.m. at the family plot alongside her mother Harriet Aldridge and grandmother Maude Dennen-Hinson of Gloucester, all that would like to attend are more than welcome to pay respects.
