Arlene was born on May 9, 1927, in Portland, Maine; she was the cherished only child of George and Lillian (Anderson) Pinkham. Arlene was raised and educated in Maine and was a graduate of Caribou High School in Caribou, ME with the Class of 1945. Arlene went on to continue her education at Maine General Hospital with the Cadet Nursing Corps. Program from 1945-1948 where she was awarded a Nursing Diploma and became a Registered Nurse. Arlene initially was a private duty nurse before she was Commissioned with the United States Navy on June 15, 1949. Arlene was stationed at Newport Naval Hospital in Newport, RI until June of 1950 when she was transferred to Chelsea, MA and worked at the Chelsea’s Soldiers Home. Arlene resigned her Commission with the rank of LTJG in October of 1952.
Arlene moved to Billerica, MA in 1967, where she raised her three children; Richard, Donna and Dean; Arlene was a very dedicated and loving mother and grandmother. She treasured the time she spent with her family and friends.
Following her move to Massachusetts, Arlene took a position as a Staff Nurse at the E. N. Rogers Veterans Hospital in Bedford, MA, where she took great care of her fellow Veterans from 1969-1989 when she retired.
In her spare time, Arlene, enjoyed volunteering at the Billerica Public Library, gardening, and traveling with family and friends. She was a member of the Navy Nurse Corps. Association and the Billerica Country Club where she loved to golf.
Arlene is survived by her children Richard Sousa of Florida, Donna Beecy of Stowe, VT and Dean Sousa and his wife Paula of Billerica. She was the loving “Grammie” of Dean Sousa, Eric Beecy and Cameron Beecy.
Due to the current situation with Covid 19, Arlene’s family had decided to have a private service at this time.
