Born in Boston on July 7, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Helen (Michaels) Moritz. Joan was a graduate of Jamaica Plains High School in 1951. They raised their family in Peabody and had been parishioners of Saint John the Baptist Church. In her later years, Joan had resided at the Brooks House in Salem. Joan enjoyed crocheting and decorating.
She is survived by five children, John Cushing of Wash., Joan and Tom Sands of N.H., Stephen Cushing of Wash., Denise and Bob LaRoche of N.H., and Gregory and Alison Cushing of Maine; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Marian Ciruolo; two granddaughters, Amy and Stephanie Cushing; and her brother, Albert Moritz.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2020, in Saint Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers.
