He was born in Gloucester, on July 1, 1937, son of the late William Leavitt Sr. and Josephine (Rowe) Leavitt.
Bill was a graduate of Gloucester High School, class of 1956. In 1960, he entered the United States Army and honorably served in Alaska. Thereafter, Bill worked in the seafood industry most of his life. He was a former Redman and later became a member of the American Legion in Gloucester and then Ipswich.
In his younger years, Bill was an avid football and hockey fan. He played hockey locally here on the North Shore. In his latter years, he kept active and spent much time socializing with his “Zumi” buddies. He had a love of art and enjoyed drawing local scenery.
Billy is survived by his sister, Judith, wife of James Melanson; brother, J. Kenneth Leavitt, life partner to Joyce LoPiccolo; sister, Jo-Ann, wife of Peter Trimmins; and sister, Denise, wife of Pasquale Penta. He had many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and a great-great-niece. He loved his family dearly. He was proud to call George Allen his life-long friend, a friendship since childhood.
