He was born in Gloucester on July 30, 1929, son of the late William and Mary E. (Thomas) (Porper) McKay.
David was a graduate of Gloucester High School, class of 1947. Following high school, he proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He worked for 25 years at the Empire Fish Company in Gloucester, and for 25 years as a machinist at Gloucester Engineering.
David enjoyed walking along the boulevard, and skiing with his wife and their good friend Msgr. Daniel Sullivan, and he never missed a Patriots football game.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
David is survived by his wife of 64 years, Natalie E. McKay of Gloucester; his daughter, Deborah A. Lanphear and her husband William of Lynn; his grandson, Roth W. Lanphear of Utah; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Elizabeth Butcher, Carolyn Bertolino, Dorothy Rowley and Patricia Shea; and his brothers, Russell, William, and Robert Porper.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Ann’s Church, Holy Family Parish on Friday, January 10, at 9:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. The burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.
Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, will be held on Thursday, January 9, from 4 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to St. Ann’s Church, Holy Family Parish, 60 Prospect Street, Gloucester, MA 01930.
