DANVERS – Mrs. Constance Avena (Nelson) Walker, 94, of Danvers, passed away unexpectedly on December 31, 2019 at her home.
Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota she was the daughter of the late Andrew Gustav Adolph and Hazel Helen (Halver) Nelson. She was raised and educated in Minnesota and received her Bachelor’s in Music from Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, Minnesota then traveled east to attend Smith College for a Master’s in Social Work.
At college Constance met Roland Walker and they married on December 27, 1949. They raised their three sons; Roland E. Walker Jr., Jeffrey A. Walker and the late Mark L. Walker in Boxford, MA. For many years she was a church organist and choir director for Trinity Episcopal Church in Topsfield and also worked as a family counselor for Family Services of Greater Lawrence. She later moved to Haverhill where she met Richard Young of Hamilton and eventually moved to Washington, NC where they lived happily for many years up until Richard’s passing in 2004. She then returned to Massachusetts, spending the remainder of her life in Danvers. An accomplished musician and vocalist she loved participating in Trinity Episcopal Church Choir in Topsfield and also enjoyed reading. Constance will be greatly missed by her loving family, friends and the many lives she has touched along the way.
Surviving Constance are her sons, Roland E. Walker, Jr., of Pam Springs, CA; Jeffrey A. Walker and his wife, Pamela A. Walker of Ingram, TX; Her sister Helen Wettlaufer of Park Rapids, MN; her grandchildren Meaghan A. Calvo and her husband Joseph P. Calvo of Atkinson, N.H; and Andrew M. Walker and his wife Katelyn C. Walker of Peabody; her nieces Heidi Hindt and her family of Prior Lake, Minn. and Carolyn Beseke and her family of Apple Valley, Minn.. She was also the mother of the late Mark L. Walker and sister of the late Anna May Nelson.
Visiting hours will be held in the Peterson-O’Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., (Rte. 62) Danvers on Saturday January 4, 2020 from 4 to 7 p.m. Relatives and friends invited.
