Beverly – Alfred J. DiPaolo, 63, of Beverly, passed away surrounded by loved ones after a brief illness.
Alfred was the son of Ann M. (O’Hearn) and the late Alfred R. DiPaolo. He graduated from Beverly High School, UMass Amherst and Lesley College.
He was a dedicated and beloved teacher in the Beverly School System for thirty-six years until his retirement in 2018.
Upon entering Beverly High School, Al was a star athlete participating in football, basketball and baseball. After suffering a spinal cord injury, he applied his talents to coaching in the City he loved. He served as a line coach for the 1988 BHS super bowl team under head coach, Bill Hamor. He was also a valuable assistant coach for the BHS baseball team with head coaches, Doug Linehan and Tom Donovan. He was inducted into the Beverly High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2017.
In spite of his injury and numerous setbacks along the way, Al would prevail and overcome whatever obstacles were put before him. He was an inspiration to all.
Al will be greatly missed by his family: his mother, Ann, his sisters Barbara Smith and her partner, Greg Ames and Diane Ball and her husband, Foster, his partner and health care provider, Lisa Hally, numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Patricia Anderson and nephew, Peter Smith.
His funeral Mass will be held at St. Margaret’s Church Beverly Farms on Monday January 6, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be in the Campbell Funeral Home 525 Cabot Street, Beverly on Sunday January 5, 2020 from 1 to 4p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alfred J.
