NAHANT — Russell Cole Gaudet, age 81, of Nahant, died Monday in Salem Hospital, where he was taken after being stricken ill at his home. He was the beloved husband of Joyce (O’Grady) Gaudet, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage, and the son of the late Russell F. and Claire (Cole) Gaudet.
He had lived in Nahant for the greater part of his life, and was a graduate of Lynn English High School and Worcester Academy. He had also attended the University of Miami.
Cole enjoyed a long career in the insurance industry, retiring at age 59 as director of International Operations at John Hancock Financial Services. He spent a lot of volunteer time at Worcester Academy, where he attended prep school. He was also involved for many years with a Boston-based mentoring program. He enjoyed boating and lobstering, and also loved to golf. Cole coached Lynn Babe Ruth, East Lynn Pop Warner and Nahant Little League. He loved his home and his Nahant community, and his greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his loving children and their spouses, Russell F. Gaudet, Linda Gaudet, Marcia and David Huntley, Lisa and Craig Franklin, Jeffrey and Lori Gaudet, and Stephen and Simona Gaudet; his special niece, Leigh Ann Olivieri; 12 grandchildren, Brian, Corey and his wife Sarah, Kevin, Megan and Judah Gaudet of California, Justin Franklin of Chicago, Brendan Franklin and his wife Jessica of Denver, Aaron Huntley and his wife Laura, and Ethan Huntley of Boston, Jennifer and Josilyn Gaudet of Lynn and Madison Gaudet of Lynn; two great-grandchildren, Scott Alan Franklin and Helen Joyce Franklin; his siblings, Marcia Smith, Cy Gaudet, Paul Gaudet, Bob Gaudet and Deborah O’Connell; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was the brother of the late James “Jay” Gaudet and Claire Gaudet.
Service information: His visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. in the SOLIMINE Funeral Home, 67 Ocean St. (Route 1A), Lynn. His funeral will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Nahant. All may please meet at church. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.
