Danvers – Mrs. Barbara (Hennigar) Pingree, 95, peacefully passed away April 19, 2019. Born on April 20, 1923, in Danvers, Barbara was the daughter of Stafford and Grace Hennigar, and the sister of Clyde Hennigar and Mildred Holbrook. A lifelong resident of Danvers, she lived on Burley Farm, and later on, in the neighborhood her father created in the early 1950s.
Barbara married Philip Pingree in 1945, and despite his death in 1978, she remained a devoted wife until her last breath. Barbara and Phil had three children, Martha Bennett (James) of Danvers, Bruce Pingree (Jean) of Seabrook, New Hampshire, and Sylvia Pingree of Melbourne, Florida.
Nana, as she was known, was beloved by her family. She adored and spoiled her grandchildren, Timothy Bennett of Washington, D.C.; Natalie Burns of Lowell, Michigan; and Adam Pingree of Seabrook, New Hampshire. She delighted in becoming GiGi to the next generation of the family: Brady Burns, Jack Bennett, and Marley Burns, who will hear stories about their loving great-grandmother throughout their lives.
She loved the Red Sox, sunny days, and dessert, not necessarily in that order. At home, she always had cookies or her famous Chex Party Mix to share. She will be deeply missed. The street bearing her name will always be visible from Burley Farm Road, serving as a constant and comforting reminder of her love and legacy.
At the request of the family, Barbara’s family will be honoring her life with a private service. Assisting the family with the arrangements is the Peterson-O’Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., (Route 62), Danvers. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Kaplan Family Hospice House, c/o Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B102, or the Danvers Council on Aging, 25 Stone St., both located in Danvers, MA 01923.
