West Newbury. MA – Phyllis W. (Davis) Hobson, age 90, West Newbury native, passed Thursday, February 14, 2019, at the Port Healthcare Center in Newburyport, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Newburyport, April 29, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Percy W. “Skip” Davis and Gladys A. (Haight) Davis and was a graduate of West Newbury High School, class of 1947.

As an accomplished bookkeeper, Phyllis had worked at various businesses throughout the area, including Redmond Shoe Company, Pentucket Oil Company, Busfield Cranton, and for many years at the West Newbury Municipal Water Department.

Having lived in West Newbury her entire life, Phyllis was actively involved with the West Newbury Grange and the West Newbury Emergency Guild, and was the “go-to person” for West Newbury history.

Phyllis and her husband, Norman H. Hobson, who died in 2001, never had children, but their lives were filled with the love of their dogs, who were their children, Tammy, Mandy, Shadow, and Misty; as well as her nieces and families. Phyllis and Norman were each other’s best friends. They did everything together and loved spending time at their cottage on Plum Island, entertaining friends and family, or simply enjoying the quiet beauty. Phyllis, with her exceptional photographic memory, was especially fond of solving crossword puzzles.

She was predeceased by her only brother, Merle W. “Bud” Davis back in 2009, and leaves behind three nieces, Katheryn A. Campiglio and husband Ed; Linda-Jo Demers and husband Robert and Pamela Nason; grandnieces and a grandnephew, Lauren A. and Liza M. Campiglio and Zachary Nason; step-grandnephews and a step-grandniece, Barrett and Benjamin Demers and Briah Demers; a great-grandnephew, Owen M. Rumfelt; and her dearest, longtime friend, Marjorie O’Callaghan.

Memorial services and burial in Bridge Street Cemetery, West Newbury, where Phyllis will be reunited with her dearest husband Norman, will be private for the family. Arrangements are by Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 36 West Main Street, Merrimac. To honor her love of dogs, donations in her memory can be made to Guiding Eyes for Dogs, the MSPCA, the Humane Society, or Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley.
