Manchester, MA – Richard W. Southgate, of Manchester, died August 18 after a lengthy illness. Mr. Southgate worked for almost 40 years as a corporate lawyer for the Boston Law Firm Ropes & Gray, serving as managing partner from 1990 until his retirement in 1995. He was also a long-serving town moderator in Manchester, and a member of the Board of Selectmen. A memorial service will be held in Manchester at the Essex County Club on Sunday, November 18, beginning at 2 p.m.

Mr. Southgate is survived by his wife Joann; and four children, Richard Jr., Sally, Rebecca, and Jay. He is predeceased by his wife Nancy.
