John E. Bates, 66 of Provincetown, died Tuesday October 16th at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis. He was the loving husband of Amornmarn Bates.
Born in Plymouth, he was the son of the late Stanley and Lucille (Brown) Bates. He graduated from Brockton High School and went on to study Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice at Massasoit Community College in Brockton. He was a Campus Police Officer at Stonehill College in Easton, Mass. He also did Public Relations work.
John took an early retirement to pursue his dual dreams of art and antiques. An independent dealer of antiques as well as a self-taught artist, he worked in oil, acrylic, water color and sculpture. He was widely admired for his talent.
In addition to his wife, Amornmarn, he leaves a son, John T. Bates, a brother Stanley Bates and a sister, Linda Peterson, along with many friends.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of John’s Life, Thursday, November 1st at the Gately Funeral Home, 94 Harry Kemp Way, Provincetown. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
