His family remembers him as a kind, loving, intelligent man with a witty sense of humor, who was devoted to his family. George had strong and dedicated work ethic. He loved music and computers.
He was a longtime member of the Salvation Army. As a young adult he served as a volunteer firefighter in Hampstead, N.H.
Throughout his career, employment included Owens Illinois, Danvers State Hospital, and Anna Jaques Hospital. He previously owned the Country Pumpkin variety store in Newburyport.
George leaves behind his first wife and best friend Sandra M. (Tremblay) Souther of Newburyport, Mass.; two sisters, Mary (Souther) Cook of Lords Valley, Pa., and Agnes (Souther) Gentile of Salisbury, Mass; five children, Lena M. (Souther) Murray of Gardner, Mass., Daniel M. Souther of Salisbury, Mass., Kathy A (Souther) Gallant and husband Joseph Gallant of Salisbury, Mass., James G.Souther of Raymond, N.H., Mary Jo (Souther) Benosky and husband Stanley Benosky of South Hampton, N.H.; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
At his request there will be no services. All are invited to a Celebration of his Life at the Elks Lodge in Newburyport on October 13, 2018, from 3 to 7 p.m.
