George Comparetti, a long-time resident of Somerville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, August 1st at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was 88.
Born in Boston, he was raised in Somerville and was the son of the late Cesare and Adelina (Bonugli) Comparetti. George attended local schools and graduated from the Somerville High School with the Class of 1949. Following graduation, George and his father, Cesare, owned and operated the Bengal Trucking Company in Somerville. He later worked for the Yellow Taxi Cab Company until his retirement in 1992.
In his spare time, George spent much of his time walking. He loved being outside and walking around the city. He also liked to watch The Lawrence Welk Show. George enjoyed going to the beach, walking in the sand and swimming in the ocean. He was a kind and loving person, and there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for his family. George will be missed by all the lives he touched.
George was the beloved husband of the late Elissa I. (Russo) Comparetti, who passed away in 2016. They married on September 2, 1951 at St. Anthony’s Church in Somerville. Together they shared 65 loving years of marriage. He was the devoted father of Paul S. Comparetti and his wife Jean of Canton and Joy Passanisi and her husband Salvatore of Billerica. George was the loving grandfather of Lucia and Lisa Passanisi, and the dear brother of the late Gina Whiteside. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, Medford on Monday, August 6th at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 4 through 8 PM. Services will conclude with interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in George’s name may be sent to the charitable organization of One’s choice.
