Mr. Donald E. Johnson, 84, a 50-year Andover resident, passed away on May 1, 2018, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. Don was the son of the late Walter F. and Barbara M. (Mencik) Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jane (Wakeley) Johnson of Andover, and by daughters Laura W. Johnson-Kelly (Martin Kelly) of Candor and Ithaca, NY and Gwenith A. Levanti (Gregory Levanti) of Sarasota, FL. He was predeceased by his brothers Walter and Kenneth, and is survived by four nephews, three nieces and six grandchildren: Michael and Natasha Levanti and Cynthia, Diana, Owen and Linnaea Kelly.
Don was raised in Bloomfield, NJ, where he earned his Eagle Scout and graduated from Bloomfield High School. He earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD in engineering from Cornell University, and became a Professional Engineer. He served in the US Air Force at MATS Headquarters, and was a long-time employee in the aerospace industry at Avco/Textron in Wilmington.
In his spare time, Don enjoyed skiing, swimming in Pomps Pond, studying history and foreign languages, and playing the organ.
His Memorial Service will be held at South Church, 41 Central Street, Andover on Monday, June 4, 2018, at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Interment will be held in Spring Grove Cemetery in Andover. Reception will follow at South Church. Donations in Donald’s memory may be made to the South Church Organ Fund, 41 Central Street, Andover, MA 01810. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, of Andover.
