Walnut Creek, CA – Mildred “Mi…

Walnut Creek, CA – Mildred “Millie” or “Sis” Elizabeth Madigan Kelmon, a longtime resident of Walnut Creek, Calif. and Gloucester, Reading and Wilmington Mass., passed away peacefully at home on May 14, 2018, at the age of 98.
Born in Boston, Sis was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Martin Madigan.
Sis graduated from Charlestown High School in Charlestown, Mass in the class of 1937. After graduation, she worked at a bank where she met her future husband, Ralph M. Kelmon, Sr. As the story goes, Ralph came into the bank one day on an audit assignment for work and decided on the spot that he would marry Sis.
The two married in 1943. In their 55 years of marriage, they celebrated the birth of their only son, Ralph M. Kelmon, Jr., and four grandchildren. They were active in their local Catholic churches wherever they lived and for years enjoyed being summer members of the Bass Rocks Beach Club in Gloucester. Sis was heartbroken by the passing of her late husband, Ralph Sr., on April 10, 1998 and her son, Ralph Jr., on December 3, 2012. A strong, healthy woman, she carried on physically and mentally right till the end of her days.
Sis loved to bake, sew, and watch her “story,” Days of Our Lives. She loved See’s candy, well-done steak, and a good joke. Though she lived alone for 20 years after the loss of her husband, when asked how she was doing she would always smile and say, “I can’t complain.” Another famous saying in her later years was, “Don’t shed a tear for me when I go – I had a great life!”
In addition to her parents, Sis was predeceased by siblings Dorothea Madigan McGrath and John Madigan.
Sis is survived by her grandchildren, Shawn Kelmon Young of Alamo, Calif., Matthew Kelmon of San Francisco, Calif., Jessica Kelmon of Concord, Calif., Michael Kelmon of Portland, Ore. and her six great grandchildren: Lauren, Joseph, Connor, Maxwell, Charlotte, and soon-to-be-born Margaux.
The family wishes to thank Sis’s caregiver, Ron, for his compassionate companionship and assistance in her final years.
A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 30 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Walnut Creek, Calif. Her ashes will be buried next to her husband’s in the family plot at Wildwood Cemetery in Wilmington, Mass.
