Peabody – Mrs. Mary Catherine (Kane) Kavanagh, 88, of Peabody, beloved wife of the late Arthur Arsenault, died Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at the Gloucester Healthcare Center in Gloucester.
Born in New York, New York, she was the daughter of the late Matthew and Marguerite (Kennedy) Kane. She was raised and educated at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Forrest Hills, New York, and continued studying at Marymount College.
Mrs. Kavanagh was employed at Condé Nast prior to becoming a full-time mother. Later in life, she especially enjoyed working at the Irish Cottage in Peabody, and received great satisfaction volunteering at the North Shore Cancer Center. She loved all things Irish, especially seeing her grandson play for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team. Having a deep love of football, she grew up an avid fan of the New York Giants and finished loving her hometown New England Patriots. Steeped in faith, she was a parishioner of St. Agnes Church in Middleton and enjoyed singing with the Sweet Adeline’s Choral group. A true conservative, she supported her beliefs in word and deed. Fox & Friends just lost their biggest fan!
A loving wife and mom for three generations, she took great pride in raising her family and providing a warm and loving home. Welcoming to all, she defined the catch phrase “she didn’t know a stranger.” Family and friends will spend countless hours remembering the endless laughs, warmth, and attentive compassion Mary brought to everyone. She will be dearly missed.
Mary is survived by her children, Patricia A. Morris of Gloucester, Kevin R. Kavanagh and his wife Mickey of New Jersey, and Sean E. Kavanagh and his wife Elizabeth of San Antonio, Texas; her grandchildren, Ryan, Megan, Erin and Hayley; her great-grandchildren, Anne, Celia, Alexis, Jordan, Sami and Braeden. She was the sister of the late Matthew Emmett Kane and Robert Kane, and mother-in-law of the late Russell R. Morris and former wife of the late Robert Kavanagh.
Her funeral service will be held in the Peterson-O’Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St. (Route 62), Danvers, May 5, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends invited. Burial will be private. Visiting hours prior to the service from 9 to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Mary’s memory to the Pan Mass Challenge for Dana-Farber at http://profile.pmc.org/TS0267.
