Peabody – Manuel Vilar, age 92, of Peabody, died Monday in the Kaplan Family Hospice House after a brief illness. He was the husband of Catherine G. “Kay” (Cordeau) Vilar, with whom he shared 67 years of marriage. Born and raised in East Boston, he was the son of the late Jesus and Maria (Torres) Vilar. He had lived in Peabody since 1966.
Manuel served in the United States Navy during World War II. He had worked as a designer for Teledyne and PRI in Billerica for many years until his retirement in 1998.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his godchild, John Repucci of Saugus; his sister-in-law, Gladys Nicotera and her husband Leo of Woburn; his brothers-in-law, Joseph Cordeau and his wife Anna of York, Maine, and Richard Cordeau and his wife Margie of Lynn; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Jerry, Ramon, and Anthony Vilar.
His funeral will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Ann Church, 140 Lynn St., Peabody. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Arrangements by the Solimine Funeral Home, Lynn.
