Lucille met the love of her life, Henry L. Upton, Jr., while at “Salem High.” Following a lengthy on and off courtship, they were married in Salem at St. James Church on June 27, 1953. Lucille and Henry brought Martha, John, James, David and Anne into the world with love and joy.
She enjoyed many happy years as a mother and wife, while living on Boston’s North Shore, Wisconsin, Maine and Boston’s South Shore, where she encouraged her children to appreciate the joys of skiing, camping and sailing. She nurtured her children’s individual interests in drawing, music and the arts, and provided piano and violin lessons. Throughout this time, she continued her involvement in nursing through the Visiting Nurse Association. She resumed her full-time nursing career in Worcester, Massachusetts, working at Saint Vincent and Memorial Hospitals as well as the Public Health and Public School Departments. In 1990, she moved to Cape Cod, where she continued her nursing career by working at Elder Services and Hospice of Cape Cod.
