Naples, FL – Claude E. Vautin of Naples, Fla., passed away peacefully on Friday, March 30, 2018 at the age of 92. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, with whom he shared 58 wonderful years.
Claude will be lovingly remembered by his extended family, including his sons Tom and his wife, Shirley of Brewster, Mass, Bob and his wife, Susan of Scarborough, Maine, Bill and his wife, Joan of Sammamish, Wash.; his five grandsons, Tom and his wife, Beatriz, James and his wife Siming, Jeff and his wife Jane, Brian and his wife, Mary, David, and his granddaughter, Jacqui; as well as his four great-grandsons, Zachary, Tyler, Landon, and Alex. He will also be deeply missed by his niece, Louise Weaver, her husband, Dick, their children Chris and Leah, as well as his niece, Janet Deyerberg. He is survived by his good friend and companion, Georgena Kabel.
Claude was born on January 12, 1926 in Richmond Hill, N.Y. He had one sister, Louise Speer, who passed away on March 20, 2018. He grew up in northern New Jersey, was an Eagle Scout, and after high school graduation, enlisted in the Naval Aviation Program during World War II. After V-J Day he enrolled at New York University where he completed his undergraduate and master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering. In 1955, Claude and his family moved to Massachusetts where he joined General Electric for a 30 year career in jet engine engineering and management.
Claude and Helen lived many years in Danvers, where they raised their three sons and participated in many activities through the Maple Street Congregational Church. His family remembers many good times at their vacation cottage in Maine. Upon retirement in 1986, Claude and Helen settled in Naples, Fla. where they both enjoyed travel, boating, social events and good times with family and friends. In 2001 they moved to Bentley Village. Outreach was important to Claude where he served as a Deacon at the Naples UCC Church, volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, and led various resident committees at Bentley.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 22 at 2:30 p.m. in the Palmetto Room at the Bentley Village.
