Mary Willford Schmeltz died Monday, April 2, 2018 at home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on Dec. 1, 1929 to the late Alvin Willford and Eugenia Cummings Willford Leeds, she attended Lynn schools, and graduated from the Lynn Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1950.
She was a longtime member of the Lynn Hospital Alumnae Association. Mary worked as a registered nurse at Lynn Hospital until closing, then Union Hospital for six years, VNA American Home Care, and then Lynn Community Health Center. She was also involved with the Nurses Health Care Study for more than 40 years. Mary loved her family, her work, sewing, knitting, embroidering, reading on her Kindle, and visiting family, friends, and Foxwoods.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years Richard Schmeltz; daughters Jean Hogan, Ann Kurth, Linda and Brenden Tague, Gail and James Bresnahan; grandchildren Julie Kurth Abou-Elias, Dawn and Kyle Desruisseaux, Craig Ryti, Justin and Heather Ryti, Jesse and Tabitha Hogan, Kenny Hogan, Michael Bresnahan, Kevin Bresnahan, great-grandchildren Jasmine Abou-Elias, William Fortier, Riley Desruisseaux, Ethan Hogan, and nephew Ron and Kathy Lavoie. She was predeceased by her sister Rose Roback and niece Ruth Lavoie.
Service information: A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at the SOLIMINE Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Route 129), Lynn, followed by burial at Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Memorial visitation will be prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
