Marblehead, MA – John R. Blaney, 72, passed away on the morning of Wednesday March 28, 2018, at Salem Hospital, with his loved ones by his side.
John was born and raised in Marblehead, Mass., by his parents Raymond and Doris Blaney. He grew up attending the schools locally before he attended Tilton School in New Hampshire. After graduation, he continued his education in college before he went onto working for various printing companies as an estimator.
Outside of his work, he was a talented blacksmith in Peabody, as he ran his own shop for years, while acting as the manager of the Marblehead VFW for eight years. John was also an active participant in the Gerry 5 in Marblehead, as he contributed his time and efforts to the organization as a bartender, foreman, and chef, and he will be remembered for his amazing cooking abilities.
One of John’s most amazing accomplishments was being honored as a 33rd Degree Mason in the Scottish Rite on August 29, 2006. Above all, John will be remembered as a dedicated member to various organizations, an amazing friend to all he met, and a loving member of his family.
John leaves behind his significant other of 15 years, Karen F. Rogers; his cousins, Jean MacAskill, Kenneth MacAskill, Marolyn Ciarlotta and husband Michael; and a small extended family.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday April 5, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home, located on 85 Federal St., Salem. Funeral services will be held following the visiting hours on Thursday April 5, 2018, at 12 p.m. Interment will be held privately per the family’s request.
