Sanford Smith

(Bolton, MA) Sanford B Smith, 74, died on September 12, 2012 after a long illness. Born in Buffalo, NY; he was a former long time resident of Westford, MA.

A graduate from Alfred University with a degree in Math and minor in Physics, he was a Member of the Blue Key Honor Society & Phi Delta Sigma fraternity. He served in the Army at the Ballistics Research Lab at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. Most of his career was at Hanscom Air Force Base, Phillips Lab, retiring as Deputy Chief CIO.

He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Chelmsford, MA, as Sunday School teacher, Social Ministry, Church Council & an advocate for the Walk For Hunger. In Westford he served on the Capitol Outlay Committee & was a member of the Westford Photo Club.

He loved traveling with his family. He enjoyed outdoor activities including gardening, photography & tennis. He was predeceased by his parents, Richard T & Marjorie K Smith. He is lovingly survived by his wife Janet, his children, Tara Smith Greenhaw of Newtown, CT, Sanford Tyson Smith of Lowell, MA, and Chad M Smith of Los Angeles, CA, two grandchildren, Madeline & Mitchell Greenhaw, a sister Barbara Smith & several nieces, nephews & cousins.

Visitation at BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD, MA, Tuesday, September 18th from 4-8pm. Funeral, Wednesday September 19th at 10:30am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 170 Old Westford Rd., Chelmsford, MA, 01824. PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH.
