George Elliot Goodrich, 92, of Chelsea, Vt., formerly of Amesbury, Mass., died May 5, 2017, at the Gifford Medical Center in Randolph, Vt. George was born on May 13, 1924, in Amesbury, Mass., to Murray E. and Mabel B. (Stone) Goodrich. He grew up in Amesbury, graduating from Amesbury High School and joining the Marines in 1942. During World War II, as a member of the Second Marine Division, he participated in four Pacific battles and the occupation of Japan. George married Lois J. (Sargent) Goodrich on November 27, 1946. They lived in Amesbury as he attended Wentworth Institute in Cambridge, Mass., graduating in 1948. He then went to work for General Electric and held many management positions, compiling 38 years of service, retiring in 1986. George and Lois then moved to Chelsea, Vt. He was a lifetime member of the Second Marine Division Association and V.F.W., Post #8451 in Chelsea, Vt. George enjoyed playing sports in his younger days. He and Lois enjoyed hiking, camping and attending their grandchildren's many sporting events. They also enjoyed the quiet peacefulness of their home in the hills of Vermont. George is survived by two sons, Gene E. Goodrich and wife, Michele of Amesbury, Mass., and Gregg S. Goodrich and wife, Dianne of Gorham, Maine; a daughter, GayLynn Cartier and husband, Mark of West Ossipee, N.H.; a daughter-in-law, Ruth Ann Goodrich of Hagaman, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his wife, Lois, of 66 years; a son, George D. Goodrich; his parents; two sisters, Annie and Harriet; and three brothers, Joseph, John and Murray. There are no public calling hours. A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 1, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Chapel in Randolph Center, Vt. Burial with military honors will follow in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center, Vt. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either United Church of Chelsea, P.O.
