Dr. Allan Clark Morgan passed away peacefully at home with his devoted wife, Alice, by his side on May 3, 2017. Dr. Morgan was born March 29, 1940, in Torrington, Conn. He graduated at age 16 from A.B. Davis High School in Mt. Vernon, N.Y. He went on to earn his Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate of Science in Engineering from MIT by the age 23. As a chemical engineer with Cabot Corporation Boston, he invented a process of reducing carbon emissions from the stacks at carbon black plants, a jet mixed reactor to efficiently produce carbon black without emissions, which was adapted worldwide, a method of making a vulcanized wire reinforcement tire, and a multitude of other patents. His love of the sea and fishing brought him to Manchester-by-the-Sea and Key Colony Beach, Fla.; he loved Gloucester and his boat the Alicalla. He was a master bridge player, author of multiple books, avid cook and lover of food, wine, and his golden retrievers, Bailey and Murphy. Allan leaves behind his loving wife, Alice (McGrath) of 35 years; and his children, Allan Clark Morgan Jr. and his wife, Lucia of Wethersfield, Conn., Cinnamon Kallander Shenker and her husband, Max of Los Angeles, Calif., Geneviève Anna Morgan Stillman and her husband, Glenn of New Braintree, Mass., Carmine John Camerato and his wife, Victoria of Watertown, Mass., and Christine (Camerato) LeBlanc and her fiancé, John Caruso of Watertown, Mass.; and 12 grandchildren, Kate, Curtis, Tiffany Blake, CJ, Courtney, Robert, Mackenzie, Reid, Eliana Leah, Faith Anna, Yaakov, Olivia Lucia; his former wife, Susan Kallander; best childhood friend, Skip Humphrey; several cousins from Pennsylvania, and many lifelong friends from MIT and Cabot Corporation. A celebration of life will be held at the First Parish Church, 10 Central Street, Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA, on Monday, May 15, 2017, 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
