Omer Ernest Lussier, Jr., 87, …

Omer Ernest Lussier, Jr., 87, passed away on April 1, 2017, in Marblehead, just days after celebrating his birthday. Omer was born March 27, 1930, in Woonsocket, R.I., the third son of Omer and Alida (Forcier) Lussier. Following his graduation from Dean Academy and from Tufts University, Omer worked in investment banking and later for Berkshire Life, and the Massachusetts Company. He also pursued entrepreneurial endeavors, including the marketing of a child's "rocking dory." Following retirement, Omer enjoyed working as a substitute teacher in Gloucester and Beverly schools. When his children were young, the family enjoyed many hiking and skiing expeditions, primarily to the White Mountains. Omer's true passion was sailing and together with his second wife, Sandra MacIntyre, made numerous excursions Down East, as well as participating in the Bermuda 1-2 race. and made a trans-Atlantic crossing in Omer's beloved 28 1/2-foot Triton sailboat, the Sobraon. Omer also sailed to the island of Cuba and back, several years later. His family will remember Omer's cooking, his love of books, the twinkle in his eye, and his enjoyment of a good debate on almost any subject. Omer is survived by his three sons, Philip and his wife, Faye of Ashfield, Steven of San Francisco, Calif., and Mark and his wife, Jennifer of Salem. He also leaves three grandsons, Martin, Eric, and Andrew, all of Salem; his sister, Suzanne Lussier of East Douglas; his first wife, Eleanor Stewart of Rye, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his second wife, Sandra, and his brothers, Roland Philip and Jules. A private celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
